NPA Customised Make-up and Eye Treatments SCQF level 6

The National Progression Award (NPA) in Customised Make-Up and Eye Treatments was developed in response to major changes in National Occupational Standards (NOS) and industry practice. A consultation carried out with centres also indicated NPAs should offer ‘bite sized’ segments of learning in specialist areas that reflect industry practice and meet the needs of learners, deliverers, and NOS.

This NPA develops knowledge and understanding of skin types, skin tones and colour correction. Learners will also develop knowledge on the structural and functional deterioration of the skin with age, both internally and externally, the aesthetic changes to the skins pigment with ageing, and absolute and relative contraindications to the application of make-up. They will learn how to develop make-up skills by identifying the client’s skin type and skin tone through skin analysis, then follow health and safety practices as they plan, prepare and perform make-up applications customised to the client’s skin and to enhance appearance. To enhance the client’s eye shape, learners will learn how to apply cluster and strip lashes.

Why study this qualification

The NPA in Customised Make-up and Eye Treatments at SCQF Level 6 is suitable for direct entrants with some experience and prior knowledge in the subject area. It is suitable for those already working within the beauty industry.

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. However, learners would benefit from having attained the skills, knowledge and understanding required by one or more of the following or equivalent qualifications at SCQF level 5 and/or experience:

  • NC Beauty Therapy Skills (GV0J 35)
  • SVQ Beauty Therapy (GL6Y 22)
  • NPA Make-Up and Eye Treatments (GV0H 45)

Due to health and safety considerations, the recommended minimum age for this qualification is 16 years at the time of registration.

Employment and progression

Learners who successfully complete the qualification may progress to:

  • SVQ Beauty Therapy at SCQF level 6 (GL71 23)
  • NC Beauty Therapy Services and Treatments at SCQF level 6
  • other NPA awards or employment within this vocational area
