Estimates, Absentees and Assessment Appeals 2008

Estimates, Absentees and Appeals front cover imageThe publication of the updated guidance on Estimates, Absentees and Assessment Appeals (EAAs) for the 2008 diet has been published.

This document will support our work with teachers, lecturers and partners to enhance understanding of standards. Two copies of the document have been issued to centres.

The key changes to the guidance are as follows:

  • clarification of the text in Social Subjects, Social Sciences and Business subjects, evidence requirements
  • additional advice on split prelims in the generic section dealing with prelims
  • clarification on evidence requirements in Home Economics at Intermediate 1
  • additional advice for Higher Mathematics, in the light of the introduction of objective test questions in the examination for diet 2008
  • following requests from centres, some Standard Grade advice has been added as an appendix

We hope that the early publication of this guidance will assist staff in the detailed planning that we know takes place within centres to deliver courses.

Estimates and Assessment Appeals

As part of our commitment to work with teachers, lecturers and partners to enhance the understanding of standards, we have hosted events for key teaching staff.

These events provided the opportunity for teaching staff involved in teaching National Courses eg Depute Headteacher or Principal Teacher to consider:

  • the key messages on Estimates and on Assessment Appeals
  • SQA?s findings on the analysis of feedback on unsuccessful Appeals at Higher and Advanced Higher for the 2007 examinations
  • the support available to centres, including the new interactive e-learning resource for Estimates, Absentees and Assessment Appeals.

These events took place early in January/February 2008 at four venues across Scotland and have been very well received by all who attended.
