As well as accrediting Scottish Vocational Qualifications, SQA Accreditation also considers other qualifications based on national Occupational Standards and qualifications deemed necessary by legislation.

Recent changes in legislation have brought about statutory requirements for people working in licensed trade and the security industry. SQA Accreditation has received submissions from awarding bodies who offer these qualifications and has formally accredited a number of awarding bodies to deliver these across Scotland.

The following links lead to more detailed information for each of these sectors and lists those awarding bodies accredited to deliver the statutory qualifications.

 

NOS Based Qualifications

NOS Based Qualifications are vocational qualifications which are directly and exclusively based on approved NOS, but which are not classified as SVQs.  These qualifications can vary in nature, but they must not contain any content which is not based upon the approved NOS.  This category of qualification can be used to describe:

• Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs) which have been designed using whole NOS Unit or components of NOS Units.
• Qualifications designed to assess knowledge and understanding from within NOS Units or components of NOS Units, such as Technical Certificates.

Irrespective of the qualifications submitted under this category, the awarding body must be able to demonstrate that the content of its qualification maps to approved NOS Units or components of NOS Units.
